Stand-Off at Susanville Ranch Park Ends Peacefully

sheriffupdate4The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and the Susanville Police Department are releasing details surrounding a stand-off in Susanville Ranch Park which ended quietly, after briefly causing a lockdown at Meadow View School Thursday afternoon.

Late Thursday morning, according to information released by Susanville Chief of Police Jim Uptegrove, officers from his department, assisted by the LCSO, responded to the 100 block of South Lassen Street regarding a reported sexual assault. The suspect was identified by police as Susanville resident Ian Fink, who fled the area.

At approximately 11:50a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Susanville Police Department on a report of a suicidal subject in the Susanville Ranch Park area.

According to LCSO Captain Kevin Jones the person was reported to have a firearm and had fled from the city limits into County jurisdiction. While on scene, law enforcement officials from both agencies reported hearing gunshots from a close distance, presumably from the subject.

policeupdate3“Over the course of two hours,” explains Captain Jones, “the subject, later identified as Ian Fink, age 22 of Susanville, made several threats towards law enforcement and fired multiple shots from his firearm.”

Communication was established with Fink by Crisis Management members of the Susanville Police Department and Lassen Co. Sheriff’s Office. Eventually Fink complied with instructions, relinquished his firearm and was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Deputies. A loaded pistol and several expended cartridges were found at the location Fink was taken into custody.

Fink was arrested on several charges of sexual assault and booked into the Lassen County Jail on $122,500 bail.

During this incident the Cal-Fire office west of Susanville and Meadow View School near Susanville Ranch Park were locked down as a precautionary measure.

“This was an incredibly successful incident based on the multi-jurisdictional efforts of the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department, assisted by Cal-Fire,” said Captain Jones.
