Sheriff’s Office Update: Single Victim in Afternoon Shooting West of Susanville

sheriffupdate4One man is dead this evening after a shooting that occurred around 4:50p.m. just west of Susanville on property along Highway 36, according to information released by Lassen County Undersheriff John Mineau.

Mineau explained that the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a gunshot victim and Sheriff’s deputies, along with law enforcement officers from Susanville Police, Cal-Fire, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to the area.

Sheriff’s Deputies located a white male adult who suffered from a single gunshot wound and began CPR while securing the scene.

Deputies learned the suspect had fled in a vehicle that was parked on the property.

“Fire and rescue personnel arrived and assumed CPR,” explained Mineau, “Unfortunately, the lifesaving efforts of deputies, fire fighters, and ambulance personnel were unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.”

This is an active investigation and the Sheriff Coroner’s Office will make more details available after the decedent’s next of kin is notified.

Initial reports and rumors of an ‘active’ shooter, and multiple victims attributed to this incident are false according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Information on the victim and persons of interest will be released as soon as they are available and verified.

If anyone has information related to this case, please contact the Lassen County Sheriffs Office at 530-257-6121.
