Sheriff’s Office Seeking Information After Discovery of Human Remains

sheriffupdate4The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and the agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation are seeking information after human remains were discovered last Wednesday near Ravendale.

According to Sheriff Dean Growdon, deputies responded to the area, confirmed the remains were those of a human and secured the area.

Members of the FBI’s Evidence Recovery Team responded to assist the Sheriff’s Office and a detailed search was conducted. The FBI will be working with the Anthropology Department at the California State University of Chico to conduct a forensic examination of the remains.

“The examination,” explains Growdon, “may help the Sheriff-Coroner in identifying the remains and determining cause of death.”

In April of 2015 the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a person missing from the Ravendale area. The missing person was identified as Sean Chappell, age 51, of Westwood. Because of the proximity of Chappell’s last known location to the area that the remains were discovered, the Sheriff’s Office is working to identify any possible ties between the two cases.

Anyone with information related to discovered remains, or the Sean Chappell missing person case, is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (530) 257-6121.
