A local family that has been fighting the battle against cancer for the last 6 years is asking our community for help purchasing a truck with a wheelchair lift for C.T. Neely, a 23 year-old Lassen High graduate who was paralyzed while receiving treatment for Leukemia which he was diagnosed with at the age of 17.
He spent one year in Oakland Children’s Hospital before he was able to come home in a wheelchair and receive his high school diploma at graduation.
According to the family, after C.T. was released from the hospital in Oakland, he came home very weak. He was then in and out of Renown Hospital in Reno. Just as C.T. was starting to get healthy his dad Bill was diagnosed with cancer and had to retire from work.
On October 9th, 2015 the cancer took Bill’s life leaving only his mother Cari to take C.T. to his classes at Lassen Community College. His mother comes home from her job at noon and helps C.T. in and out of his current vehicle at the college. She picks him up after work and after dinner takes him back for his evening class at the college.
In December the Neely family was approached by family friend, Fran Hemphill who asked if she could do a fundraiser for C.T. to buy him a truck with a wheelchair lift. The new accessible vehicle will be life changing for C.T., he will be able to get into and out of a vehicle by himself, he will be able to get a job or go to school full-time.
Concert Fundraiser
The family will be having a dinner and concert fundraiser on September 11th, at Lassen County Fairgrounds. Dinner will be chicken and tri-tip with country superstar Lacy J. Dalton and cowboy poet Mike Bartley performing.
Dinner will be from 4:00 to 6:30p.m. and the concert begins at 7:00. Tickets for the fundraiser are $40 per person or $80 for a family of 4. Contact Tom at 530-257-8209 for ticket information.
