The Lassen Sportsmens Club’s 28th annual Junior Fishing Derby, co-sponsored by the City of Susanville and the County of Lassen, was held on August 5th in Memorial Park and along the Susan River. The event had originally been scheduled for the end of April but dangerously high water along the river this spring made postponement necessary.
Despite the late date 125 young anglers and their families came out to enjoy fishing on the pleasantly warm August morning.
More than 2,000 pounds of fish were planted in the Susan River on Thursday and Friday before the Derby and, according to Sportsmens Club spokesperson Jim Chapman, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife planted additional fish on Friday.
