After a morning where crews chased minor lightning-sparked vegetation fires from one end of the county to another, battling flames in 100 degree temperatures, the last thing they needed was a fast burning structure fire. When the call came in a little past noon reporting that a residence on Johnstonville Road near the airport was fully engulfed fire fighters again strapped on their gear and headed into the smoke and flames.
Smoke from the fire, which according to Susan River District Chief Jim Uruburu was touched off by work being done under the house, was visible throughout the valley.
According to Chief Uruburu the residence was a complete loss.
Response to the fire included Susan River Fire District, Susanville Fire Department, Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, Lassen Office of Emergency Services, California Highway Patrol, Janesville Fire Department and crews from the California Correctional Center.
This is a developing story and as more information becomes available we will keep you updated.
