The new Honey Lake Valley Community Pool opened for business with a splash today as local dignitaries, pool supporters and anxious kids gathered to cut the ribbon and take the first plunge.

The opening of the pool is the culmination of several years work by a joint powers agency formed specifically to bring a pool back to the community. Members of the Honey Lake Valley Recreation Authority were on hand to recognize individuals, agencies and organizations who contributed to the cause.

Thank you plaques were given to representatives from both the City of Susanville and Lassen County, the Susanville School District, Bill Feierabend, John and Eileen Spencer, Susanville Supermarket IGA, the Marine Corps League and Modern Building Inc.

When speeches by HLVRA Board Members Brian Wilson and David Teeter were over the group cut the ribbon and City Administrator Jared Hancock invited everyone to jump in and try out the new pool.

This summer the pool has a full schedule of aquatic offerings – from swimming lessons to youth water polo and water aerobics – something for everybody!

The pool is located at the site of the former Roosevelt Pool, 800 South Street, in Susanville and regular admission to the pool is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and youth aged 2 to 17. The pool opens to the public on Wednesday.

For a complete schedule and more information follow this link over to the pool’s official webpage.

Here is a gallery of photos from today’s ribbon-cutting to give you a look at the new community pool!
