One Arrested After Shooting Injures Susanville Woman

A 53-year old Susanville resident was arrested on a charge of attempted murder by the Susanville Police Department during the early morning hours of Saturday, April 7th, according to details released by Acting Chief of Police Kelley Merritt.

Shortly after 5:00p.m., on April 5th, Officers from the department along with Deputies from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence within the Susanville city limits after receiving a report that a woman had been shot in the head.

The reporting party, who the Susanville Police Department has identified as Derek Wayne Thorn, was located on-scene and detained for questioning. He was subsequently released pending additional investigation.

The female victim, who is expected to survive her injuries, suffered a single gunshot wound to the head and was transported to a Reno hospital for treatment.

“After further investigation from the Police Department,” explained Merritt in the report, “it was revealed that the female victim and suspect were in a verbal altercation at their residence on the evening of April 5th. Through the course of this altercation the victim sustained one gunshot wound to the head.”

Thorn was re-located and arrested early Saturday morning. He was booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges of attempted murder and bail was set at $500,000.
