Ruth Edna Winters

Ruth Winters died September 11, 2013 at her home in Susanville. Her family was at her side. Ruth was born to Frank and Clara Feaster on May 13, 1926 in Alton , Missouri and lived there until she moved with her family to Minnesota where they homesteaded near Deer River. When she was 19, she traveled by train to the California Bay Area to help her sister. There she worked as a secretary until she married. She and her husband Bert had a dairy. Later Bert and Ruth were part owners of a logging business. With their children they followed the logging jobs and lived in small Northern California communities. In 1967 Ruth moved with her family to Susanville. She and Bert owned and operated Winters Fabric and Upholstery for over twenty years .

Ruth loved her neighbors, friends , family , and God. She had friends of every age and background. She freely gave herself to others . Ruth enjoyed writing and had a gift for composing poetry. She appreciated the beauty of creation and liked to hike and bike.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bert; son, Frank Winters; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Bruce Dyer; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Bob Somerville; grandchildren, Isaiah Winters, Sydney Winters, and Brynn Winters ; great granddaughters, Ruth Winters, Gracie Winters, and Makinzie Winters; and numerous nephews and nieces. Ruth was preceded in death by her grandson, Micah Winters; brothers , Scott, Jim, and Leonard; and sisters, Miriam, Frances, Clementine, Dorothy, and Mildred.

A memorial service in Ruth’s honor will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 11am, at the Susanville First Southern Baptist Church.
