Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Wind Advisory, warning area residents to prepare for winds gusting up to 70mph in wind-prone areas from now until 11:00 tonight.
Winds will continue to increase with the strongest gusts expected from mid-afternoon through this evening.
Southwest winds, 20 to 35mph with gusts up to 55mph, are expected, with stronger gusts up to 70mph in wind prone areas.
A short period of strong gusts above 60mph is also possible outside of the wind prone areas this evening as a cold front passes through.
Travel restrictions for high profile vehicles are likely, with isolated damage to trees, fences and power lines also possible. Blowing dust may reduce visibility to one mile or less at times.
