NWS Bulletin: Warning Issued for Dangerous Red Flag Fire Conditions Today

weatherupdate

The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for dangerous fire conditions in our region from 1:00 this afternoon until winds subside around 11:00p.m. tonight.

The urgent fire message warns residents to expect low humidity and gusty winds up to 40mph throughout the afternoon and evening. Sustained winds will range from 15 to 25 mph and humidity is expected to drop down into the single digits.

The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause a wildfire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

AFFECTED AREAS…Fire Zone 278 Eastern Lassen County, Fire Zone 450 Western Nevada Sierra Front, Fire Zone 453 West Central Nevada Basin and Range, Fire Zone 458 Northern Washoe County and Fire Zone 459 Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties.

The National Weather Service office recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions.
