Nine Years as the Internet Home of All Things Susanville

Monday, September 17th, 2012

SusanvilleStuff has been around for nine years now. Isn’t that amazing?

Nine years later we routinely broadcast live video from local events, provide round the clock and emergency news coverage for Lassen County and post galleries with hundreds of photos each week, but back in 2003, when the internet was young, we had no idea those capabilities would ever be within our reach.

Over the years technology has made it possible for us to start borrowing the best parts of traditional media and bring you immediate, comprehensive and informed news coverage even as events are taking place.

We are very proud of what we have accomplished in those areas, because we know how important it is that the local community gets current and accurate news when and where they want it.

Our first SusanvilleStuff news gallery had ten pictures from the January 26th 2004 big rig roll-over in uptown Susanville

Last week during the Cheney fire we had more than 7,100 people who logged onto SusanvilleStuff to get up to the minute reports from our Emergency Services Liaison Niki Cunningham, who was on-scene with fire personnel.

During the fire we built an online gallery of more than 100 pictures… announced evacuations and closures… that along with viewer submitted videos, real-time communication with Office of Emergency Services and other agencies all contribute to what I think is some very good coverage.

It would have been hard to imagine, nine years ago, a time when a website would be Susanville’s first and best source for local news and information. Now that we make that claim, we don’t take the responsibility lightly. We know that to be a trusted source for information you have to work hard at it, no matter what medium you utilize.

People get their news and information from SusanvilleStuff on smart phones, tablets, computers, e-book readers, e-mail, facebook… in a dozen different formats that didn’t even exist when we began nine years ago, but now they are some of the most important ways we disseminate information. Imagine what we will be doing in nine more years?

Thanks Susanville! ~ Jeremy Couso, Publisher

Our birthday is actually September 22nd, so all week long we will be looking back at the nine years of SusanvilleStuff with lots of guaranteed self-aggrandizement!

If we could have a moment of your time...

In the last 15 years SusanvilleStuff has become Lassen County's most influential media source with an average of 21,000 people visiting and reading stories about our little corner of the world each week.

SusanvilleStuff is our area's only locally owned news and information source and our commitment is to our friends and neighbors, with the goal of creating the best, all-around, most reliable content, while at the same time highlighting what makes Susanville and Lassen County so incredibly unique.

Why We Need Reader Support
Our independent, local coverage takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. While we make most of our money from advertising revenues, these days those can only go so far to support what we do. Every dollar our readers contribute goes towards making SusanvilleStuff a stronger voice in the community with better, more comprehensive content. We increasingly need the help of our readers to support us with either a voluntary subscription or a one-time contribution.

You don't have to subscribe to SusanvilleStuff, but we will be incredibly thankful if you do!
