New Lassen County Junior Fair Board Seeking Outstanding Youth Applicants

The Lassen County Fair recently announced the formation of a Lassen County Junior Fair Board and has begun reaching out for enthusiastic community members between the ages of 14 and 19 to be a part of the group.

The new junior board will assist in planning of events at the fair, helping with the livestock show, lending a helping hand during the annual Bluegrass Festival, races and any event put on by the fair. Junior board members will also make appearances before Lassen County groups to promote our local fair while learning about the always-interesting fair industry.

“The purpose of the Junior Fair Advisory Board is to provide young adults with an opportunity to develop leadership skills, perform community service and become aware of the business and operations of the Lassen County Fair,” explains Fair Manager Jim Wolcott.

Junior Fair Advisory Board member duties will include providing outreach to the member’s community and schools as well as providing input to the fair staff and Fair Board as to what their age groups would like to see at the fair.

The Junior Fair Advisory Board’s efforts will also be to assist with activities at the fairgrounds throughout the year including with helping with pre-fair set up in all departments of the fair and help facilitate the selected youth contests during the fair. Members must be willing to help when other duties are assigned.

The Junior Fair Advisory Board is under the direction of the Junior Fair Board Committee which consists of appointed members of the Fair Board. Each member will serve a two year term and may reapply if the member is in good standing. Meetings will be held at the Fair Office the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30.

“This is an incredible opportunity to expose a select group of individuals to a very unique and exciting industry and put you in touch with your fair in a way that would be hard to do in any other way,” said Wolcott in a written invitation to applicants.

Candidates must reside within the Lassen County School District, be between the age of 14-19 years as of January 1st and have a GPA of 2.5 or above to be eligible for this very special program.

Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, March 6th, 2018, and can be picked up at the Lassen County Fair Office, 195 Russell Avenue or you can click here to download a printable version. Once applications are received the Fair Board will review and select members.

If you have any questions about the program, please call the fair office at 530-257-8900.
