Narcotics Task Force Turns Up Large Amount of ‘Spice’ in Doyle

The Lassen County Narcotics Task Force, with assistance from the Lassen County Probation Department and Susanville Police Department, executed a search warrant today at the Payless Gas Station in Doyle, seeking a popular drug sold to teens.

According to Lassen County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Kevin Jones, the Sheriff’s Office and the Task Force have been receiving information that people, specifically teens, have been going to the Doyle store and purchasing ‘Spice.’

Sergeant Jones described ‘spice’ as a mixture of herbal and spice plant products sprayed with potent psychotropic drugs, often contaminated with unidentified toxic substances which contribute to various adverse health effects.

Spice has hallucinogenic effects similar to effects of PCP and has been reportedly very popular with teenagers.

“Based on this information,” said Sergeant Jones in a press release this morning, “the task force began an investigation into the sales of this product from the Doyle Payless Mini-Mart located in Doyle.”

“Prior to this date, a Task Force Agent posing as a patron, entered the store on more than one occasion and purchased the product known as, ‘spice’ from an employee working at the store.

On September 24th, members from these allied agencies executed the warrant at the store. Large amounts of the ‘Spice’ product was found inside the business.

All of the product was seized while the store was temporarily closed during the search. The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney for review and arrest warrants are expected to be issued in the near future.
