Students and parents are reminded that Meadow View School has a dress code. It is the mission of the Susanville School District to provide education in morals, manners, dress and grooming because these are elements of good citizenship. Guidelines, as specified in Susanville School District Board Policy, Article VI Pupil and Personnel, Section 6.6 Student Attire, are intended to define “appropriate student attire” and personal grooming. Their purpose is to prevent disruption of the classroom atmosphere, enhance attendance and minimize distractions of other students so as not to interfere with the educational process. It is also intended to help protect the health and welfare of the individual student. If necessary, students violating any part of the dress and grooming policy may be sent home to change to appropriate clothing.

Specifics are addressed as follows:

1. Clothing which is purposely frayed or torn is not acceptable.
2. Backless, strapless, spaghetti straps, or halter-type blouses are not considered appropriate school wear.
3. T-shirts are allowed, but no tank tops.
4. Shorts are permitted when using the following guideline for shorts length: the student holds his/her arms at shoulder height and dropping his/her arms to his/her sides with fingers pointed to the ground, the bottom hem of the shorts’ leg must meet or exceed the length of the longest finger when the shorts are worn in an acceptable position on the waist. (This applies to boys and girls).
5. Spandex type shorts are not allowed. Frayed, torn or un-hemmed shorts are not allowed.
6. Dress length will follow the same procedure as short length described above.
7. No bare midriffs.
8. No low-cut or revealing tops.
9. No off-the-shoulder blouses.
10. No see through or fishnet type of blouse or shirt may be worn.
11. Students must wear shirts at all times.
12. Shoes: Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times. Open-toed shoes and sandals must have a back strap. Appropriate shoes must be worn on P.E. day.
13. Articles of clothing advertising alcoholic beverages or tobacco products are not allowed.
14. Articles of clothing with obscene pictures or sexist language are not allowed.
15. Articles of clothing associated with off-campus social groups (gangs) are considered to be a disturbance to our education program and therefore, not acceptable.
16. Non-permanent hair coloring (Jell-o, sprays and vegetable dyes) are not allowed.
17. Common courtesy dictates that sunglasses be removed indoors.
