Martha Grace Bacon Miller – February 15, 2017

Martha Grace Bacon Miller

Martha passed away on February 15, 2017 in Sparks Nevada at the age of 86. She was born on February 22, 1930 in Hollister, California to Clarence and Grace Butterfield Bacon. Martha’s
great grandfather, Myron Bacon, headed out to California during the Gold Rush from Illinois. He and his wife and six children eventually settled in 1866 in Bear Valley on the east side of the
Pinnacles and were among the first Americans to settle there.

Their son Horace Greeley Bacon, which was Martha’s grandfather, taught at the one-room Bear Valley School for more than twenty years, becoming the community’s most popular and highly regarded teacher.

Martha grew up on the family ranch in Bear Valley and graduated from San Benito High School in 1948. She went to college at UC Santa Barbara and graduated with an elementary teaching credential. She moved to Lassen County in 1952 as the new bride of Herb Miller, who had also been born and raised in Hollister, and had purchased a ranch in 1951 near Litchfield California. She taught in the Susanville School District before deciding to stay home and be a full time mom and help on the ranch.

After her children were grown and raised, Martha went to work at California Correctional Center where she worked 10 years until she retired in 1995.

All four of her children were very active in 4-H and she enjoyed being involved in the 4-H program. She was the key leader for the Standish 4-H Club for many years. She was also a
past member of the Standish Bible Church.

Martha Bacon Miller is survived by her four children: Darlene Miller, (Ted Check), Nancy Sisk (Martin), Becky Neely (Tom) and Chris P. Miller (Nancy) who all live in Lassen County. Also
surviving are eight grandchildren: Levi Anderson, Clinton Neely, Colter Sisk, Shelby Sisk McArthur, Kyle Neely, Kayla Neely, Ginger Miller and Waylon Miller. She also has two great
grandchildren; LeShawn and Aubree Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herb Miller in 2011 and brothers Warren Bacon, Horace Bacon and sisters Marian Peel and Bobbi Hunt.

Graveside services will be held at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Johnstonville Calif on Saturday March 4th at 11 am. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to make a contribution to your favorite charity
