Bud met and married his life long partner Martha in 1942.  Bud was engaged to another woman but Martha stole his heart at a decommissioning party of the USS Lexington.  The two of them celebrated their 72nd anniversary in August 2014.

After his military career he continued on with his love for mechanics.  He was an automotive mechanic for over 50 years.  He had his own business in Litchfield, Ca.  His customers admired and appreciated the work he did for them.  Some of his hobbies were fishing, hunting and camping.  He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children very much.
