Leo Guitierez
Leo Guitierez passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2015.
Leo was born to Felix Guitierez and Grace Joaquin Guitierez in Susanville, Ca. Jan 31, 1934 . Leo joined the navy in 1954 and served his country during the Korean war for 4 years, as an EN3 Engineman, aboard the USS Grapple. After his military service, Leo began his career in the lumber industry with Fruitgrowers Lumber Co. in 1957, and finished his career with Sierra Pacific Lumber Co. in 1998, 40+ yrs.
Leo became very active with his tribal development and infrastructure; he first served as Susanville Indian Rancheria Tribal Chairmanin 1977 and continually served on tribal council as Tribal Vice Chairman until 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood craftsmanship, and he was an amazing knife-maker. Leo was an avid rancher, horsebreeder, and horseman with many award winning Appaloosas produced by his ranch.
Leo will be missed ever so greatly by family members and friends alike. Leo was proceeded in death by his father Felix Guitierez , mother Grace Joaquin Guitierez, brothers Bob Guitierez, Felix (aka Budge) Guitierez, Clyde Northrup, sisters Josephine Valadez , Ramona Evans, and first wife Delores Guitierez . Leo Guitierez is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Guitierez, and many nieces, nephew’s and cousin’s.
The wake will be held at the Rancheria gymnasium on Joaquin st July 31st at 5:00 p.m. Services for Leo will be August 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Rancheria Gymnasium.
