Lassen Community College Kinship Education Program free workshop: Permanency Options/Working with Birth Parents Presented By Natalie Karso. Please come and join us as Natalie will share her personal permanency story and her direct work experience working with Birth Parents over the numerous years with Lassen County. This is a great opportunity for anyone who would like a better understanding of the pros, cons, and resources to help with their Permanency Options and the importance of Working with the Birth Parents. This workshop is offered 10:00 – 12:00 pm at Lassen Community College in the Creative Arts Building room #209. The newly formed Rooptown 9 Neighborhood Watch will be hosting an organizational meeting on Thursday, January 25th.  The group’s watch area extends from Main Street to Chestnut Street and North Roop Street to Grand Avenue. The meeting will be held at the Lassen Senior Center, 1700 Sunkist Drive, at 6:00p.m., and everyone is invited to attend – even if you live outside of the Rooptown 9 Neighborhood Watch area. For more information you can contact Starlyn Clare at 310-2719 or Jim Chapman at 251-6828.

Lassen Family Services Parenting Group 9:30 – 10:30 pm at Lassen Family Services, 1306 Riverside Dr. Parenting Group classes are designed to help reduce chaos and power struggles within families. Cure Cabin Fever: A Day of Cross-Country Skiing and Hot Soup. Join Lassen Land and Trails Trust for a chance to enjoy a ski trip followed by some warm homemade soup. Start the day out with an adventurous cross country ski outing to Butte Lake, led by Phil Finkel. This is for the tried and true cross-country skier and, of course, may be affected by the weather. It’s a 13-mile round trip. Please pre-register by calling (530)257-3252, dress appropriately and bring water, snacks and lunch. Participants will meet at the historic Susanville railroad depot at 8:30a.m. Everyone is welcome at the Historic Susanville Railroad Depot at 5:00p.m. for an array of hot, homemade soups, breads and cookies. Registration for the ski trip is free and the soup dinner is for a $10 donation per person and a $5 donation for children 12 and under. While filling up on great soups, enjoy a no-host bar.

Saturday, January 27
Diamond View basketball will be holding a 3 on 3, half-court, double elimination tournament to raise funds for the program. Check-in at Diamond View School on Richmond Road will begin at 8:00 and the first games begin with 5th and 6th graders at 8:30. Other divisions will follow. Cost to participate in the fundraiser is $40 per team. Each team must consist of 3 players, 1 substitute is optional and at least one girl must be on the court at all times. Spectators can watch the tournament action for just $2 each. You can register online by clicking here – registration is due on or before January 24th. Community CPR & First Aid Class. The Susanville Fire Department in cooperation with SEMSA and the Lassen County Health Department will host a CPR and First Aid Class from 8:00 – 3:00 pm. The cost is $5.00, and it will be held at the Susanville Fire Hall. This class size is limited to 30 people. For more information, please call (530) 257-5152.
