World-renowned clinician, researcher and professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Bruce Perry M.D., Ph.D., paid a visit to Susanville on Wednesday for a day-long workshop on childhood trauma hosted by Lassen County Behavioral Health and the Child Abuse Prevention Council.
Dr. Perry is the author of over 500 journal articles, book chapters and scientific proceedings and is the recipient of numerous professional awards and honors, including the T. Berry Brazelton Infant Mental Health Advocacy Award, the Award for Leadership in Public Child Welfare and the Alberta Centennial Medal.
The presentation, made to a packed house at Susanville’s Veterans Memorial Hall, centered around understanding the effects of trauma and loss from a neurodevelopmental perspective.
Participants learned new strategies for care, program development and policy related to developmental trauma. Dr. Perry also identified the signs and symptoms of trauma in young children.
