The Johnstonville Elementary School 7th grade boys basketball team traveled to the town of Loyalton to participate in the Sierra Valley Invitational Tournament this past weekend. Â The 7th grade boys division included 8 teams from Lassen County, Plumas County, and Washoe County.
Their first contest was against the Portola Tigers on the evening of Friday, January 13th. Â The Jonstonville Grizzlies played tough defense, moved the ball well on offense and came away with a win.
On the afternoon of Saturday January 14th, the Grizzlies faced their local rivals from Janesville Elementary School. Â The Grizzly defense controlled the game and helped lead them to a victory over the Janesville Wildcats.
The championship game was held on the afternoon of Sunday January 15th, at Loyalton High school. Â The showdown pitted the tough defense of the Grizzlies against the three point shooting Quincy Trojans. Â The Grizzly defense smothered the Trojans and led them to an early ten point lead. Â The Grizzlies backed off of their press but continued to pressure Quincy’s three point shooters. The Grizzlies proved to be too quick for the Trojans and finished the championship game with a twenty point lead.
