Salary: $51,193.12 – $56,507.63 per year (DOE)

Under the general direction of the Tribal Administrator, he/she will be responsible for the overall administration of the Education Department. The Director ensures that educational, cultural and personal development services are provided to the students and families served and will strive to meet the unique needs of the tribal community. This individual will recruit and assist in the selection of program participants and will oversee the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Education Center. The Director will promote access and equity to all Education Center programs for tribal children, youth, and families by creating and fostering community wide agency partnerships that will enhance and balance the tribal family needs while respecting their cultural diversity and heritage.


  1. Ensures that the programs under the Education Programs Department facilitate and support a range of services to the tribal community and families that bring a special focus on family, education, and cultural activities. He/she will make referrals as necessary,
  2. Ensures that the Education Programs Department is administered and implemented according to the applicable grants and ensures compliance with the grant regulations and policies.
  3. Ensures that the goals and objectives of the Education Programs Department are implemented and updated on an annual basis.
  4. Coordinates transportation for students to and from the Education Center and for other grant objective activities.
  5. Consults with parents to collect input into program operations via a Parent Advisory Committee and coordinates parent training as needed.
  6. Works with the staff to coordinate activities for the enrolled children that are relevant, age appropriate, and culturally sensitive.
  7. Responsible for the orientation of all Education Programs Department staff, as well as all required on-going or in-service training that will ensure continued staff development.
  8. Attends regional in-services, training, and workshops as required/needed.
  9. Monitors the Education Programs Department on a monthly basis to ensure the programs are being implemented as stated in the ACF, CDE, and IMLS grants.
  10. Establishes and maintains community partnerships that share the Susanville Indian Rancheria’s Educational Programs plans and objectives.
  11. Coordinates program interests with other Indian education programs that provide services to Native American students.
  12. Works with the tribe’s grants writer in administering current funding source requirements and pursuing grant opportunities for furthering the goals and objectives of the Education Programs Department.
  13. Ensures that all educational programs meet or exceed the stated goals/objectives.
  14. Provides the Tribal Business Council with a monthly Education Programs Department Report.
  15. Contributes to the team effort by participating in the Susanville Indian Rancheria’s facility wide program improvements, goals and standards.
  16. Other duties as assigned


  1. BA in child development, social services, or human services, or a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential plus two (2) years administrative/supervisory level experience directly working with a diverse range of children, youth, and families.
    -or- AA in child development, social services, or human services plus four (4) years administrative/supervisory level experience directly working with a diverse range of children, youth, and families. -or- HSD/GED plus eight (8) years administrative/supervisory level experience directly working with a diverse range of children, youth, and families
  2. Two years experience working with various funding sources that would relate to childhood education.
  3. Experience in grant administration and/or budget oversight.
  4. Must obtain a CPR and First Aid card within sixty (60) days of employment.
  5. Must possess positive and supportive supervisory skills.
  6. Must be a minimum of twenty-five (25) years of age with at least two (2) years of driving experience (for insurance purposes).
  7. Valid drivers license with no more than five MVR points and be insurable as determined by the Susanville Indian Rancheria’s insurance provider.
  8. Must submit to a fingerprint and background investigation.
  9. Must pass a background investigation in accordance with P.L. 101-630.
  10. Experience in researching, planning, coordinating, and facilitating community events, activities, and programs.
  11. Must be able to understand and explain community development as well as issues facing Native American families.
  12. Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability to supervise and coordinate teams to work cooperatively at all levels within the organization and in the wider community.
  13. Experience in working with County child and family agencies.
  14. Ability to deal effectively with people and organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
  15. Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within tribal program and policy guidelines.
  16. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  17. Ability to work well under pressure.
