A 47 year-old Herlong woman, whose name has yet to be released, was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle rollover on Johnstonville Road according to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol.
The unidentified woman was driving a 2000 GMC Sonoma pickup eastbound on Johnstonville road at an unknown speed at around 3:20p.m.
“As she negotiated a left curve,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Kristen Wilburn, “she allowed the vehicle to leave the south edge of the road and travel into the ditch and Payless Building Supply.”
According to the report the vehicle then began to slide sideways as it reentered the road and subsequently overturned.
The driver, who the CHP report says was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest blocking the eastbound lane. She was transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center by SEMSA Ambulance and was later transferred by PHI Air Med Helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno where she succumbed to her injuries.
The California Highway Patrol took the opportunity to remind all motorists of the importance of wearing seat belts.
