Fire Crews Respond To Vegetation Fire in Susan River Canyon

Smoke from the vegetation fire in the Susan River canyon could be seen from downtown Susanville Wednesday afternoon.

A vegetation fire, the cause of which is still under investigation, burned just west of Hobo Camp in the Susan River canyon late Wednesday afternoon, underscoring dry conditions here in Lassen County.

According to Lassen’s Office of Emergency Services Chief Eric Ewing the fire burned between one and two acres in vegetation along the north side of the river and the Bizz Johnson Trail.

As of 5:00p.m. firefighters had hose line around the fire and the threat to the city’s water lines leading from Cady Springs had been mitigated.

Agencies responding to the blaze included Standish/Litchfield Fire, Cal-Fire, Susan River FPD, the City of Susanville, Bureau of Land Management, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and Lassen OES.
