Dr. Bateson, Susanville’s resident meteorological expert, checks in with frighteningly low precipitation totals for the month April.
Despite April beginning at 103% of average the numbers quickly dropped with hardly any rainfall to speak of.
“We had only .45 of an inch in precipitation in April for a dismal 38% of average,” says Bateson. “This brings us to 19.35 inches for the year to date at only 99% of average.”
Eagle Lake
Bateson measured Eagle Lake on Saturday at a level of 5092.22 feet, up only 6 inches since last November.
“The lake lost 1.5 feet since this time last year and it is only 1.02 feet above the all-time low record of 5091.2 feet in 1937,” explains Bateson. “Therefore I predict that the lake will break that record at least by September 1st if not before!”
