Discover Lassen: Trails Trust Hosting Talk on Native American Heritage

llttdiscoverThis Event Has Been Cancelled According to Event Organizers and Will be Rescheduled at a Later Date.

Discover Lassen County’s native American heritage by joining Lassen Land and Trails Trust on Saturday, January 21st, at the Susanville Indian Rancheria, 745 Joaquin Street, at 11:00a.m., followed by a potluck lunch at noon.

Mace Delorme, who has a Masters in Social Work and has taught Native American Studies at the College of the Redwoods, will provide the native perspective of the survival of the descendants of the Kammutakuta Band to current times.

The presentation will begin with two creation stories to provide the traditional stories from the two Tribes which make up the Kammutakuta Band. Paiutes, the Kammutakuta Band of Numa, have been in Lassen County for more than 600 generations.

The Paiutes were described by early historians as the renegades during the invasion period in Lassen County History. The descendants of the Kammutakuta believe that history was unjust, as their leader during the period Sabba, AKA Smoke Creek Sam, fought for freedom and for his people’s way of life.

Delorme has lectured about native psychology and healing of historic trauma in northern California.

Join Lassen Land and Trails Trust and Delorme for this informational talk on the native American heritage of this region, and please plan to stay afterward for a potluck lunch!
