Diamond View School promotes standards of "Dressing for Success." Students are expected to dress in a fashion that shows respect and is not offensive, is conducive to a positive learning enviorment and is not disruptive or distracting to the educational process, and meets health and safety standards.Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times. Please not that "flip-flops" are not allowed.

The following clothes are prohibited:

1. Items directly or indirectly depicting or referring to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, death, profanity, nudity, vulgarity, obscenity, or other socially inappropriate message demeaning to any race, religion, sex or ethnic group or which advocates the violation of the law.
2. Revealing or provocative clothing, such as tops that expose bare midriff, clevage and/or undergarments.
3. Tank tops, tops which have spaghetti straps or are backless.
4. Pants that fall below the hip bone.
5. Shirts/skirts with high slits or that expose more than half the thigh.
6. Shorts/skirts whose hem is shorter than the longest finger tip when arms are extended downward at sides while standing.
7. Excessive metal accessories: any chains (including chains on wallets), spikes, sharp protruding objects, safety pins as clothing, or other potentially dangerous items.
8. Articles of clothing associated with gangs are considered to be a disturbance to our education program and, therefore are not acceptable.
9. Clothing which is purposely frayed or torn in not acceptable.
10. Non-permanent hair coloring (jell-o, sprays, vegetables dyes, etc).
11. Hats must be removed by both boys and girls inside the buildings.
12. Commom courtesy dictates that sunglasses be removed indoors unless there is a medical reason with accompanying note from the doctor.
Consequences for wearing inappropriate items can include:
You will be asked to make a "change" for the positive.
You may be given an "ugly shirt" or suspenders for saggin pants and issued a demerit.
Continued dress code violations may include parent notification, detention time, office referrals, and suspension for insubordination, and even long term suspension for repeated offences.
As with any policy, inclusion of all possible situations is difficult. Please remember the Diamond View staff may sometime have to use its discretion regarding student dress.
