David Jeffers

David Jeffers passed away July 6, 2014 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Dave was born in North Bend, Oregon on Dec. 31, 1950 to Imogene (Nolen) and James Luther Jeffers. He was raised and attended school in Susanville, graduating from Lassen High School in 1969 and receiving his associate’s degree from Lassen College in 1971. He continued his education and received his bachelor’s degree in social sciences from California State University, Chico in 1976. While attending high school he began working for Citizen’s Utilities where he eventually met his wife, Mary Roberts. They were married Dec. 7, 1974 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alturas, California.

During Dave’s tenure at Citizen’s Utilities he held many different positions including summer help, installer, engineer, engineering manager, and network manager, among other positions. He was well respected and appreciated as a boss and excelled in maintaining good personal relationships. When the company established offices in Dallas, Texas, Dave and Mary both moved and started new positions with the company. After more than 25 years with Citizen’s, Dave worked for several other telecommunications companies in the Dallas area including GTE and Verizon. He also worked as a communications consultant for Price, Waterhouse, Cooper on projects across the country from Washington State to Florida. Dave also worked for Eftia OSS Solutions commuting from Dallas to the home office in Ottawa, Ontario Canada for more than a year.

Dave was proud of his son, Jim (36), and spent many hours attending his son’s sporting events. He challenged him to pursue higher education beyond his own achievement s and proudly attended Jim’s graduation ceremony when he received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Oklahoma on May 13, 2013.

An avid fisherman, some of Dave’s happiest days were spent on lakes, streams and rivers in Northern California. There are numerous fishing stories, including a recent catch of a 40-pound salmon in the Sacramento River.

Dave developed a love for horseback riding in order to spend more time with his wife, Mary. He participated in English hunting and jumping competitions throughout California, Nevada, Texas and Oklahoma.

Dave retired when his wife, Mary, became ill with young onset Alzheimer’s. His love and devotion to her led him to become a certified nursing assistant so he could care for her himself. He spent every day of the last years of Maryā€™s life taking care of her. First at home, and then eventually working with her in the Surprise Valley Medical Center and Modoc Medical Center.

Dave was always interested in bettering himself through education and reading. He continued studying in the MBA program at Dallas Baptist University. After his wife Mary passed, he attended geriatric care classes at American River College in Sacramento, California. Dave delved deeply into subjects that interested him and became an expert others relied on in many fields. He was successful in everything he set his mind to learn about.

With an open, thoughtful and generous personality, he was liked by everyone who knew him.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Roberts), and his brother Jerry Jeffers.

He is survived by his son, Jim Jeffers, of Ohio; his half-brother, Ted Cutler, of Susanville; his mother-in-law, Marie Roberts, of Chico; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Adrian and Alice Roberts of Chico, Billy and Marlene Roberts of Alturas, and Dan and Kathleen Gentry of Forest Ranch; and many cousins, nieces and nephews including Ami Roberts, Brandon Roberts, Charlea (Joe) Johnston and Andrea Roberts, Lisa Cutler, Corey Cutler, Charles Nolen of Delight, AR, Mary (Nolen) Stallings of Rudy, AR, Kelsey (deceased) (Charlene) Nolen of Susanville, CA, Kevin (Diana) Nolen of Reno, NV, and Dana (Nolen) (Dwayne) Walberg of Oroville, CA.
