Construction Work Begins Today at Rice Canyon OHV Area

blmupdateA project to improve off-highway vehicle recreation opportunities is beginning today, Wednesday, October 19th and continuing through November 15 that the Rice Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area east of Susanville. Heavy equipment will be used, and visitors are asked to use caution when in the area.

The Bureau of Land Management said additional work including trail maintenance will be ongoing throughout November.

The project is funded by a June grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division that provides for improvements at the 105-acre area 10 miles northeast of Susanville in Lassen County.

According to BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Marisa Williams, the project will connect trails and improve their sustainability.

Crews will install picnic tables, OHV loading ramps, barriers and signs. Access roads and parking areas will be improved with grading and gravel.

When complete the area will provide riding opportunities ranging from trails for novice riders to steep hill climbs for the more experienced.
