City Council Selects Moore as New Fire Chief

newchiefThe City of Susanville announced today that James Moore has been appointed to the position of Fire Chief, filling a vacancy left when Fire Chief Ted Friedline retired in January.

Chief Moore’s career in public safety began 28 years ago in 1987 when at the age of 14, he joined the Susanville Fire Department Explorer Post #2911. Moore was an explorer for three years, and served as Secretary/Treasurer and Lieutenant.

In 1990 he joined the Susanville Volunteer Fire Department and served for ten years, assuming increasing responsibility to serve as Lieutenant, Vice President, and President.

In 2000, Chief Moore was hired as a Fire Fighter with the Susanville Fire Department and was promoted to work as the City’s Code Enforcement Specialist from 2004 to 2006.

Chief Moore continued to rise through the ranks, serving as Fire Captain from 2006 to 2010 and was appointed to the position of Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal and served in that capacity from 2010 to 2015.

Today’s announcement cited Chief Moore’s leadership, professionalism and dedication to his community.

Chief Moore will be officially appointed at a public ceremony on April 1st, at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 66 North Lassen Street.
