CHP: Warnings and Citations Issued as Part of School Zone Enforcement Operation

Tuesday, September 12th, 2017

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve school zone safety, the California Highway Patrol recently conducted a school zone enforcement operation that focused on traffic safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists on roadways adjacent to schools.

“School zone safety is a key issue in our community,” explains Highway Patrol Information Officer Kristen Wilburn, “and the CHP is committed to upholding school zone safety laws to protect our citizens.”

On September 7th, a school zone enforcement operation was conducted at Richmond Elementary School, located at 700-585 Richmond Road. The school zone enforcement operation focused on drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists who were violating traffic laws.

According to As a result of this effort, five citations were issued, six warnings were issued, and an untold number of citizens were educated on the importance of school zone safety.

The CHP strongly encourages members of the community to follow basic safe practices:
• Drivers should be on the lookout for and yield the right-of-way to pedestrians.
• Drivers should slow down when approaching school zones and other areas where pedestrians are likely to be.
• Never pass a car stopped for pedestrians. It’s against the law and highly dangerous for those crossing the street.
• Remember, pedestrians don’t have armor!

The CHP is committed to doing our part to keep the community safe. We urge every member of the community to be safe and follow the rules of the road. Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility. For additional information, please contact Officer Kristen Wilburn at (530) 252-1800.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Reno has to! Too many people are not paying attention. They already had a child hit in the north valleys in the first week of school.
