Cecil Webb – July 22, 2016

Cecil Webb

Cec Webb colorCecil Webb of Reno died of pneumonia at age 87 on Friday, July 22, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Cec was born August 19, 1928 to H. C. and Addie Webb in El Paso, TX. The family moved to Seattle where he graduated from U. of Washington in 1950 with a major in Journalism. He served in the Army Signal Corps in Germany during the Korean war.

After the army Cec took a summer broadcasting course at Stanford where he met his wife Dayne. They married, started a family and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area until 1971. The family learned to ski when the children were in grade school. One reason they bought KSUE, Susanville’s only radio station, is because it was near good skiing.

The station was a family operation: Cec built an FM station in 1976, and when the children were in high school they worked the night shift as disc jockeys. He and Dayne sold the stations in 1989 and they moved to Reno in 2000.

A proud moment was in 1978 when the California Associated Press gave the KSUE news department the Mark Twain Award for the best news operation of the year. Another proud moment was when the PGA recognized Cec for making a hole-in-one at Emerson Lake Golf Club in Susanville on January 11, 1999; he tried mightily to make another one at Arrowcreek in Reno.

Cec is survived by his wife Dayne of Reno, his son Dave who now lives with his wife Melinda Welsh in Davis, CA, and his daughter Carol who now lives in Reno with her husband, Bill Monroe, and their two sons, Will and John.

Services will be Saturday, August 6 at 3pm at the First Congregational Church of Reno, 627 Sunnyside Drive, Reno, NV. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Rotary Club of Susanville, P.O Box 1291, Susanville, CA 96130.

Why Pre-plan?

Thinking about your own funeral leaves most people feeling a little uneasy, but more adults are finding that pre-planning a funeral offers great emotional and even financial security for them and their families. With pre-planning, families find comfort in knowing that the funeral reflects what their loved one wanted. It also gives them peace of mind to not have to make important decisions at a stressful time. Click here to visit Walton’s Funeral Home
