The Hobo Camp day use area near Susanville and the Pit River Campground near Fall River Mills will be opening later this month, in time for the start of stream fishing season which begins Saturday, April 28th, in northeast California.
The U. S. Bureau of Land Management announced that Hobo Camp will open at 5:00a.m. on Friday, April 21st, to provide Susan River access for the annual Junior Fishing Derby sponsored by the Lassen Sportsmen’s Club.
For the remainder of the spring and summer seasons, the day use area will be open daily from 8:00a.m. to a half-hour after sunset. The site features picnic areas with barbecue grills, restrooms, Susan River beaches and access to the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail. A resident camp host is on site.
In addition the Pit River Campground, five miles west of Fall River Mills in eastern Shasta County, opens Friday, April 27th. It features seven campsites, a group camping area, a fishing area accessible for those with mobility difficulties, and a kayak launch site. The BLM’s North Eagle Lake Campground will open by May 21th, ahead of the Eagle Lake fishing season opener on Memorial Day weekend. The site features 20 campsites in a pine and juniper forest. Some sites can accommodate RVs, but there are no hookups. A camp host is available. The campground is on Lassen County Road A1, about 30 miles north of Susanville.
The BLM also offers shoreline camping year-round at the north shore of Eagle Lake. Campers must be fully self-contained. Gray water disposal is not allowed in the Eagle Lake Basin.
Camping areas are at Rocky Point off County Road A1, and at designated sites along State Highway 139. There are no fees or services at these primitive camping areas.
