The Lassen Land and Trails Trust and Historic Uptown Susanville Association are busy preparing for the opening of the Farmers’ Market 2016 Season! This year the market moves to Pancera Plaza on South Gay Street in historic uptown.
Market hours will be from 8:00a.m. to 12:00p.m., every Saturday from June 4th to September 24th.
The partnership between the two local non-profit organizations is a joint effort to seek ways to improve the Farmers’ Market – making the market more visible to the local community and visitors to Susanville.
The move to uptown required a lot of planning and logistics on the part of the two groups; meeting requirements for providing community restroom and hand washing facilities, waste and recycling options, utilities, providing approved facilities for Vendor use, establishing cellular access and more.
In addition, the Farmers Market area will operate under a City Council approved notice of street closure from Friday night at 12:00a.m. to Saturday afternoon at 1:00. Organizers remind uptown visitors to look for signs and barricades as this is established in the weeks to come.
This season Farmers’ Market welcomes back past vendors like Hulsman Ranch and Julias Fruit stand, and welcomes new vendors like Seth Anderson.
You can expect to find what you have always had with the Farmers’ Market – a selection of local Certified Producers with meat, produce and cottage foods as well as informational booths with the Master Gardeners, Lassen Land and Trails Trust and others.
Included in all of this is live music and prepared foods! For opening day the Susanville String Trio will be playing live at the Farmers’ Market and well known Mexican food vendor, Tamales Colima will also be there! The Farmers’ Market community is a committed and strong group of people who welcome you each Saturday morning.
Farmers’ Market manager Laura Medvin said that she appreciates the community support received each year as the Market goes through the planning and operational phase throughout the summer. The planning of the Farmers’ Market includes cooperation from the Susanville City Council, Susanville Public Works Department, Lassen County Agriculture Office, Lassen County Environmental Health and Lassen County and State of California WIC Offices.
