Arlene Olive Crum
Arlene Olive Crum passed away July 05, 2014 at her home in Janesville, following a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was a long-time member of the Log Cabin Church in Janesville and lived out her faith in everyday life.
Arlene was the youngest of 5 children and was born to Ed and Frances Blankenship on June 18, 1946. A graduate of San Bernardino High School, she met her future husband, Bill, at a church function. They married Jan 1, 1966 and began their family. In Aug 1979, they moved their three children north and eventually settled in Janesville, where Bill started his own Agricultural business and Arlene supported him as his bookkeeper/accountant. Soon after, Arlene began work at Janesville School as a Teacher’s Assistant. In her 23 year tenure, she sat on various boards, served as President of CSEA, played a key role in the student store, snack bar and more.
Arlene had numerous years of humble service at home, in her church, and in the community.
She was a devoted wife/mother/grandmother and had a special place in her heart for children. This was evident not only in her own family, but also in her work at the school, the local Good News Club, AWANA soccer camp, and involvement with numerous other child focused programs, both at church and throughout the community. She loved spending time with her family, church family, camping and working in the yard.
Arlene was preceded in death by her father in 1983 and her mother in 2003. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bill, 2 sons and their families; Ron (Melissa) of Sacramento, Dale (Amy) of Reno, and daughter, Tammy Benner (Marvin) and family, of Susanville; 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; 4 brothers and families, one brother-in-law and family, one sister-in-law and family and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Janesville Elementary School, Aug 02 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Arlene’s memory to Northern California Cancer Advocates or Susanville’s Teen Challenge.
