Annual Veteran’s Ceremony Honors Local Law Enforcement and Firefighters

Susanville Police Chief John King presents the department’s 2017 Officer of the Year award to Officer Terra Avilla at Wednesday’s ceremony

Lassen County Veteran’s organizations paid tribute to local law enforcement Wednesday evening at their annual awards night ceremony, packed with family and friends, at the Veterans Memorial Hall.

The American Legion Post and the Veterans of Foreign Wars each honored officers with special tributes that were awarded within each agency.

The City of Susanville Fire Department named Louis Medvin the 2017 Firefighter of the Year

The California Correctional Center’s 2017 Correctional Officer of the Year is Correctional Lieutenant Chance Andes

CalFire’s Lassen Modoc Unit honored Fire Captain Nick Garcia as the 2017 Firefighter of the Year

The Lassen County Probation Department named Marissa Partida its 2017 Juvenile Detention Counselor of the Year

High Desert State Prison’s 2017 Employee of the Year, Community Resource Manager Jolene Speers

The Susanville Police Department’s Officer of the Year Terra Avilla

The CHP’s Susanville Area Highway Patrol Officer of the Year was Officer Benjamin Lingenfelter

The LCSO presented it’s Deputy Sheriff of the Year plaque to Deputy Scott Ducasse

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office’s Correctional Officer of the Year award went to Derek Didisse

American Legion presenter Larry Rogers

High Desert State Prison’s 2017 Correctional Officer of the Year Krispin Norcross

Inmates at the California Correctional Center created this patriotic artwork as a gift to the VFW and the Veterans Memorial Hall

The local VFW post made generous donations to both the Susanville Police Explorers and the local Holiday with a Hero program
