Almanor Ranger District Plans Multiple Pile Burns for Fall, Winter

The Lassen National Forest’s Almanor Ranger District has plans to conduct numerous hazardous fuels reduction pile burning projects throughout the fall and winter of 2014-15 within Plumas, Butte, and Tehama counties.

As weather conditions permit, pile burning could take place throughout the district in and around these locations: Chips Fire area (south and west of Butt Lake Reservoir); Jonesville Homes; Philbrook Lake Homes; Mill Creek Homes; Feather River Homesites; Warner Valley Homesites; Swain Mountain; The Boondocks; Benner Campground; Cherry Hill Campground; Domingo Springs Campground; Elam Campground; West Branch Campground; and Yellow Creek Campground.

There are also plans for a number of small pile burns in remote locations.

No major impacts are anticipated for any of the listed locations, although larger piles can be expected to produce smoke of short duration, potentially for two days/nights.

These pile burning plans are in addition to the Almanor Ranger District’s plans to implement three prescribed fire underburning projects – West Dusty, Cold Springs, and Bobcat Jackpot – this fall and winter.

The Almanor Ranger District thanks the public for its understanding during these efforts to improve the health of our National Forest lands.

For more information about these piles burns, you may contact Fuels Officer Assistant Eric Kronner at 530-258-2141. For more information regarding prescribed burning on the Lassen National Forest, you may contact any Forest office or go to the website located at http://www.fs.usda.gov/lassen.
