Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Update

The Chamber board is accepting applications to fill a board vacancy; the board seat is for a two year term. Chamber members interested in representing the business community and sharing their time and talents by serving on the board are encouraged to apply.
Applications can be obtained at the Chamber office, or call 257-4323 and one can be sent to you. Applications must be returned to the Chamber office by Monday, January 5th.
The Chamber board is seeking nominations for “Volunteer of the Year”, “Chamber Member of the Year”, and “Business of the Year”; deadline to submit written nominations is January 5, 2009. Selection will be made at the January board retreat and recipients for each award will be honored at the 121st Chamber Annual Gathering planned for Friday, January 30, 2009, at the Susanville Elk’s Lodge.

Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to attend; the theme for this year’s event is “business appreciation” and each Chamber Business Membership will receive two free tickets to attend the event. More information will be forthcoming as the event details become finalized.
The Chamber board elected a new slate of officers for the 2009 year; congratulations to the 2009 officer team, President Andrew Warren, owner of the UPS Store, Vice-President Brian Wilson, State Farm Insurance, and, re-elected for another term as Treasurer, Jeff Trump, of Haws, Theobald, and Auman, PC. Thank you to John Larrivee for his dedication and service as board President in 2008.
The Chamber office will be closed December 24th, 25th, and 26th and December 31st, January 1st and 2nd so that the staff can enjoy the holidays with their families.
Thank you to each of you who have helped to make this past year a great success, whether it be hosting or volunteering at a Chamber mixer, serving on a Chamber committee, sponsoring or participating in a Chamber event, all contributions have been appreciated as is your continued support of the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce.

Lassen Ski Club Will Open Season With Snow Frolic

It was officially announced yesterday by Albert Wahl, secretary of the organization, of the complete schedule for the Mt. Lassen Ski club.
The program adopted at a recent meeting of the winter sports club, includes eight events. The season will be opened New Years day with the annual snow frolic at Mineral.
Exhibition jumping, slalom racing and downhill racing have been placed on the schedule. Feature of this event will be the opening of a new ski run on Mt. Baldy, which was constructed by the U.S. Forest Service with CCC labor.

Mid-January will see the competitive season of the California Ski Association inaugurated when the Mt. Lassen club championships are held at Mineral. Leading skiers from the northern part of the state will be invited to participate in the season's opener.
Following the club championships, the Mt. Lassen men will again conduct its ski school for high school students. This event, started in 1936, has been scheduled for January 23, with Ted Rex, Si Brand and other members of the Mt. Lassen competitive team taking the part of instructors. The first novice tournament of the season will be held January 24.
Final event of the season, and one which attracts nation-wide attention, is the mid-summer tournament which has again been tentatively scheduled for July 4 at the Lake Helen course in Lassen Volcanic National park.
