Susanville City Council News and Notes
May 5th, 1950

Two ordinances and a proposal to install 3,000 feet of water mains were suggested by the council at its meeting Monday night.

Chief of Police Floyd A. Smith suggested that the council pass an ordinance adopting a curfew for youngsters of 16 years of age and under. He was instructed to investigate and report on what other cities of a comparable size have succeeded in enforcing this law.

F. F. Nixon, building inspector, introduced an ordinance to regulate the sanitation and safety conditions in motels, auto courts, trailer parks, etc., in accordance with sections of state law. The council will take action at the next meeting.

A. U. Zimmerman, manager of the California-Pacific Utilities Co., proposed an extension of the six inch water main in the Cornell Addition, in order to improve the city's fire protection.

Under the proposal the utilities company would pay all costs of excavation and installation and the city would pay the costs of materials.  Estimated cost of the required 3000 feet of pipe would be $2,600, Gabriel Laxalt, city clerk, said today.  This sum would be included in the 50-51 budget.

The council authorized the street superintendent to purchase a water tank for the purpose of cleaning city streets.

The councilmen approved purchase of two signs to be posted on North St. to caution motorists that children are playing in the area.

Two bids for making street improvements on North St. were opened and the bid awarded to E.G. McLain, of Crescent Mills, lowest bidder who submitted a figure of $5,455.15 for the job.

Three bids were opened and rejected for the curb and gutter project in the same area; all bids were too high. As a result the plans and specifications will be modified. New bids will be opened on May 15.
