The Lassen National Forest has announced that the Lassen County Resource Advisory Committee will be meeting at 8:00a.m. on May 6th.

The RAC will receive an update on the changes to legislation, discuss the schedule for the seventh round of grant funding and other committee business.

The rest of the day will be dedicated to hearing presentations from project proponents.

Depending on Wednesday meeting outcomes, they may continue on Thursday May 7th.

The meetings will be held at the Lassen National Forest Supervisor’s Office 2550 Riverside Drive, Susanville, CA.

The RAC is a function of the “Secure Rural Schools and Self Determination Act of 2000,” commonly known as Payments to States. Meetings are open to the public and time will be set aside for public comments.

For more information, please contact Heidi Perry-McCourt, Public Affairs Officer at (530) 257-2151, or Terri Frolli, Eagle Lake District Ranger at (530) 257-4188.

Registration is now being taken for the combined Lassen High Class of 83 and Class of 84 reunions, to be held Saturday July 18th at the Elk’s Lodge.

Plans for the event include a catered dinner, a memory slide show, drawings for 80’s era prizes and a group photo.

There will also be awards for various achievements such as ‘who traveled the furthest’ and ‘who has the most kids’.

After dinner there will be cocktails and plenty of time to mingle while 80’s music plays in the background.

For those that can’t attend in person event organizers Jim Fleckenstein and Kathy McQueen are planning on running an internet connection with a chat screen and perhaps live video of the evening’s festivities.

The reunion is going to be held the same week of the Lassen County Fair so if you are planning to attend from out of town make sure you get your hotel rooms early.

Lassen Advocate Is Going Daily
Susanville Newspaper Tells Plans
April 28th, 1953

Susanville's newspaper, the Lassen Advocate, which has been published semi-weekly since September, 1947, henceforth will be issued daily except Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays, according to Richard L. Myers, editor and publisher.

Myers, former co-publisher of the Herald, a weekly newspaper at Bonners Ferry, Idaho, purchased the Advocate from William J. Norton Jr.

The newspaper will receive the full United Press leased wire service.

One of California's oldest newspapers, the Advocate was established in 1865 and has run under the banner of “Lassen Advocate” and “The Sagebrush”.

Its affiliations include membership in the Nevada Press Association. Susanville is the county seat of Lassen County and has a population of more than 5,000 persons.
