Slot Machine Ban Ordered by Lassen County Grand Jury
April 15th, 1943

A Lassen county grand jury, meeting in Susanville this week, decreed that all slot machines and other such gambling devices, both electrically and mechanically operated, are to be "eradicated forthwith."

With the announcement that henceforth all gambling devices must go it was stated in Susanville that the matter has been referred to the district attorney of Lassen County with the assurance of complete cooperation of the office and constables throughout the county.

The district attorney has directed a letter to the enforcement officers advising them regarding the law prohibiting operation of all such gambling devices and citing the motion adopted by the grand jury at a meeting held Monday.

Authorities have stated that they plan to enforce the law immediately and to continue to enforce it to make certain there is no return of the "nuisance."

The district attorney stressed the fact that enforcement of the law will not be a "flurry."

He said the slot machines are "going out and will stay out" while the present California law stands.
