April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate, Poets and Writers Inc. along with the James Irvine Foundation, Lassen Land and Trails Trust, Thompson Peak Writers and the Lassen County Arts Council will sponsor an event at the Historic Railroad Depot April 25th.
National Poetry Month is a celebration of poetry established by the Academy of American Poets. The concept is to widen the attention of individuals and the media—to the art of poetry, to living poets, to our complex poetic heritage, and to poetry books and journals of wide aesthetic range and concern.

The focus of the month long celebration is to increase the visibility and availability of poetry in popular culture while acknowledging and celebrating poetry’s ability to sustain itself in the many places where it is practiced and appreciated and ultimately to encourage poetry readership all year round.
Starting at 7:00pm the local poetry event will feature a round table question and answer session discussing various topics important to poets such as “How to publish.”
The question and answer session will be followed at 8:15 by readings by Joelle Fraser, Jeanie French and David McCain.
Admission to the event is $6.00 and for more information you can call 257.3252 or 253.3303.

Lassen Lumber Company Sells Plant and Townsite
April 7th, 1951
Lassen Lumber & Box Co operating in the Susanville area since 1918 has sold its plant inventory of lumber and logs, as well as the townsite, to a successor organization.
The Lassen Lumber & Box Company was organized in 1918 by a group of lumbermen from Pittsburgh. They came west in search of a lumber supply and selected Lassen county the best area for their project.
More than $2,000,000 was expended in erecting a sawmill, box factory, planing mill and power plant, as well as a townsite of homes for employees. They have operated continuously since that time giving steady employment to over 250 employees.
The payrolls and operating activities of the Lassen Lumber & Box Company have been a very substantial contribution to the growth of the Susanville area. The management always receptive to calls for assistance which could be helpful to the community, have been most co-operative and during their thirty odd years of operation here have been prominently identified with every substantial program or project which has contributed to the welfare of Susanville and Lassen County.
The successor organization, Lassen Lumber & Box Incorporated, is largely composed of local men, including several department heads and key men who have been with the outgoing company for many years.
