Mark your calendar for April 11th, that’s the date of the Kiwanis Club of Susanville’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Each year the service organization holds an Easter Egg Hunt at the Lassen County Fairgrounds open to all children up to 8 years old.

The Kiwanis Club is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

Here in Susanville the club sponsors, and is involved in, many community service and fundraising activities, subsidized by the sale of corn dogs at the Children’s Fair in May and at the Lassen County Fair in July.

The Easter Egg Hunt starts at 10:00am at the Fairgrounds.

This Saturday there will be a book signing for the recently released “Small Moments in Time: Memories of Lassen County”

The event will feature a reading, signing and general discussion of the book which features tales from 79 local storytellers.

The book signing will be from 2:00 to 4:00pm in the Lassen College Cafeteria.

Rush Work on New Railroad
Susanville soon to have direct communication with sister communities
March 31st, 1912

That this district will be served by the Southern Pacific soon is evidenced by the activity of railroad officials in the city in the last few days.

Recently a W. Bowman superintendent of the Utah Construction Company, H. R. Riddle a contractor and a concrete inspector for the railroad were at work here.

St. Patrick's day was celebrated in immediate railroad circles by the crossing of the Western Pacific tracks at Flanigan and the track is coming this way at the rate of 1 mile per day so it can readily be calculated that Susanville will be on the railroad map in a very short time.

In spite of unforeseen difficulties the construction crew is within a few days of its best guess and some detractors who said that the railroad would never get to Susanville have begun to modify their stories and take comfort in predicting long and tedious delay.

At the present time over 60 miles of railroad has been constructed out of a total of 106 miles. The stretch from Amedee to Susanville is 26.8 miles, or practically 27 miles but it presents more difficulties than the run into Amedee. However, these are not great enough to delay the arrival of the road to any great extent.

Representatives of the Utah Construction Company were here yesterday and reported that two steam shovels are being shipped to Susanville and that they will be used on work up the Susan River Canyon. They stated that the shovels should be on the ground within a few days and will be placed at work immediately.

It was also stated that a telegram had been received from headquarters in San Francisco to accept the lowest bid for the advance work and that the contractors will immediately start the project.
