Lassen Municipal Utility District and experts from Efficiency Services Group will present an informative Solar Electric Customer Workshop April 4th.

This workshop is for LMUD customers who are interested in learning more about how solar energy can work for them.

Solar energy systems are gaining popularity throughout the country for both their clean energy benefits and a pronounced energy savings on the part of the consumer.

Last month’s issue of the Ruralite magazine featured a story on the home of Mike Justice and Kathy Healy-Justice, who along with LMUD and Solar Wind Works flipped the switch January 13th on LMUD’s first official grid-tied photovoltaic electric generating system.

Renewable energy and conservation have long been a passion of Mike and Kathy’s, and after years of planning, design and construction they now have what could be considered as the most ‘forward thinking’ residence in Lassen County.

Mike and Kathy are happy to discuss their project with anyone who has questions and Mike will tell his story at next week's Customer Workshop.

“I hope we can set an example for other homeowners who want to install solar on their homes,” says Mike. “We learned a lot from this experience. We’re happy to share our story, especially if it means more solar systems on Lassen County homes.”

LMUD’s Solar Electric Customer Workshop will be held April 4th in the LMUD boardroom at 65 South Roop Street.  The workshop is free of charge but it is limited to the first 50 customers.

For more information or to reserve your spot for the workshop please call Energy Services Specialist Theresa Phillips at 530.257.6944.

LASSEN FAIR PLANS NEW BUILDINGS
Structures for Grounds Are Sought
March 26th, 1946

If state approval is granted to the plan, the Lassen County Livestock show will have two new, modem fireproof buildings ready for use by August 21, when the fair opens this summer. This was decided Friday at the meeting of the fair advisory board.

New structures planned would be of steel and obtained from surplus navy stores. They also would be the largest structures on the fair grounds, except for the grandstand, each being 40x100 feet.  Placed on concrete foundations and with a concrete floor, the entire building would be of steel.

Such expansion programs require the state's approval, and plans and other data were sent to Sacramento. If the reply from there is favorable, the committee here will arrange for the buildings at once. As soon as they can be purchased and shipped, work will start on the foundations.

With 4-H and FFA boys and girls the exhibitors of tomorrow, the advisory board recommended that one of the new buildings be devoted to a young farmers' livestock pavilion and pens. The other would be for industrial exhibits.

Other building plans have been dropped by the board, according to Abe Jensen, secretary, because of the material shortage. An extension of the grandstand, and other badly wanted improvements have been shelved for this year.  The board took the attitude that as long as housing was so critical the livestock show could get by for another year without using lumber which otherwise might go for some veteran's home.
