The Artistic Performance and Entertainment Club will be presenting a special performance by R&B and BeatBox singer Antoinette "Butterscotch" Clinton this Saturday at Janesville School.

If her name is familiar to you it’s because Butterscotch has performed around the world, including a trip to the finals on season 2 of NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent’.

She was a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and has been crowned as both the first International World Female Beatbox Champion and the West Coast Beatbox Champion for both genders.

Butterscotch has made an amazing impact on young women and was even the inspiration of a teenage girl who asked to be transformed into a beatboxer on MTV’s MADE. Butterscotch made a guest appearance on the MTV show giving the girl words of encouragement before she performed at her talent show.

Butterscotch has an incredible voice, can play the piano, flute, saxophone, bass and guitar.  She is heavily influenced by jazz, classical, hip hop and R&B artists ranging from Frederick Chopin to John Coltrane to Stevie Wonder.

After high school she was accepted into the music program at California State University Sacramento as a Classical Piano Major but now is currently focusing on her music career outside of school.

Shrub Planting Set in Lassen
March 16th, 1948

Tree and shrub planting in the new city park by the Lassen Junior College Forestry club was approved by the Susanville planning board at a recent session. Club President Robert Woods appeared before the board, with George Gillette as advisor, and presented the plans.

About 75 to 100 species of trees will be obtained from the Davis forestry nursery at Davis and several Midwestern nurseries.  Woods pointed out that only trees adapted to this climate will be secured to guarantee proper growth.

Approximately six of each species will be planted in a small plot on the park grounds, allowing for mortality.  As areas on the park grounds are leveled, the trees will be transplanted at the direction of the park board.

Mr. Woods reported that efforts were being made to obtain an equal division of hardwood and conifer trees. The combination of the two types will keep the park from looking bare in winter and still have the variety of colors obtained from trees losing their leaves each fall.

Procurement of the trees and all labor in carrying out the project has been assumed by the forestry club. Care of the ground and the trees during the summer will be done by the park caretakers.  The tree planting will be a long term project for the foresters with additional plans to be made each year.

The club president said he expected the trees to be here in the next few weeks, and will be planted upon arrival in the seeding plot.
