Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Update
Patti Hagata, Executive Director

The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce encourages you to think local first when it comes to your purchases.

From large purchases to small, giving a local merchant the first chance at your business by shopping locally, helps to ensure that economic prosperity resides locally and helps to sustaining a health community.

Shopping locally whenever possible provides many benefits to us all including; a more vibrant, healthy, and happy community, resilient and diverse economy, keeps tax dollars at home to work on public services that we all use, helps to provide good stable jobs, opens the door for new business opportunities and helps to improve the competitive advantage of the local community to attract visitors and new enterprise based on quality of life measures.

Local merchants provide high quality products at a competitive price and you might be surprised to find what is available for purchase right here at home when you shop locally. You can make a difference in our community by supporting local businesses.

If you are a Chamber member, be sure that the Chamber’s visitor lobby has an adequate supply of your business cards and brochures on hand to promote your business throughout the year.

This is a free marketing service that is available to all Chamber members. Also, if you have made any changes to your business information, like new website address or email, please forward that information to us so that we can update our records.

The Lassen County District Attorney reminds business owners that the DA’s Bad Check Program is available to help businesses who have received a bad check and need help with check restitution.

The program has a high recovery success rate; bad check writers can face immediate criminal prosecution once the collaborating bank records are received.

A copy of the Bad Check Report form can be pick-up at the Chamber office or the District Attorney’s office. Also available is important information on processing a bad check and procedures you can utilize to help avoid problems.

For questions or more information regarding the DA’s bad check program contact Paula at the DA’s office 251-8358.

Just a reminder that we have relocated; the Chamber office is at 75 North Weatherlow Street, next to the Museum and Roop’s Fort.
We can be reached at 257-4323 or email us at director@lassencountychamber.org.

Emergency State Capitol Is Urged In Lassen County
February 25th, 1955

The chamber of commerce of remote, mountainous Lassen County says California should stake out an emergency capitol in its area to which the state government could move in case of a hydrogen bomb attack.

In a letter to Governor Goodwin Knight, Chamber Secretary-Manager J. R. Kelly suggested Susanville would be a choice site. He said the area is considerably outside the primary target zones of the congested areas in the valleys and on the coast.

Kelly also suggested the development of a large reinforced vault in the side of one of the many cliffs in Lassen County as a repository for state records.
