Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Update
Patti Hagata, Executive Director

The Thursday, February 19th , Chamber Mixer will be hosted by the Elegant Iris and the Men’s Den, located at 618 Main Street, in Historic Uptown Susanville.

Owners, Blake and Dave Huhtala, and their staff, look forward to hosting the mixer from 5:30 to 7:30pm and welcome everyone to stop by to mingle with friends and business associates.

The store will feature special sales on select items and this will be a great time to check out all the new items that the store has just received.

Food and no-host bar will be available. Everyone is welcome; you do not need to be a Chamber member to attend and we encourage you to bring a friend to join in the fun.

Alliance for Workforce Development, with funding thru WIRED, will hold a “Business Boot Camp” designed to give business owners expert instruction in business and market analysis, creating a marketing plan, financial management, website optimization, business law, and will cover the challenges and pitfalls of business ownership.

This boot camp is designed to help create and build a business plan that will help improve your chance at running a successful business. This 3 day boot camp will be held on Feb 24, 25 and 26th in Susanville and is free to those who wish to attend; for more information or to sign up call 530-823-4703.

If you are a Chamber member, be sure that the Chamber’s visitor lobby has an adequate supply of your business cards and brochures on hand to promote your business throughout the year.

This is a free marketing service that is available to all Chamber members. Also, if you have made any changes to your business information, like new website address or email, please forward that information to us so that we can update our records.

Just a reminder that we have relocated; the Chamber office is at 75 North Weatherlow Street, next to the Museum and Roop’s Fort. We can be reached at 257-4323 or email us at director@lassencountychamber.org

Herlong School Work Under Way
February 18th, 1953

Work is now underway on the Herlong branch of the Lassen County high school, and the building; is expected to be ready for use next October, according to Col. G.H. Leavitt, commanding officer of the Sierra ordnance depot at Herlong.

When completed, the school will house the more than 150 high school students at Herlong who now are transported by bus to Susanville to attend the Lassen high school.

Contract for construction of the school was awarded to the O'Connor brothers of Red Bluff on their low bid of $284,900, according to Alfred Mercier, district engineer for the federal housing and home finance agency.  That agency is supplying the funds for the work.

Plans for the structure were drawn by Robert Kaestner of Visalia, the architect who also drew the plans for the new primary school in Herlong.
