DEFUNCT BONDS ORDERED BURNED
February 17th, 1950

More than a million dollars worth of bonds were ordered to be destroyed Wednesday night when members of the board of directors of the Baxter and Tule Irrigation districts met at the county court house.

$446,000 in bonds for the Baxter Creek district, and $714,000 in bonds for the Tule district were listed for recording in the office of the county recorder, and the bonds were ordered to be burned.

Thus ended the story of a total of $1,317,000 worth of bonds issued by the two districts in July 1921, for the ill-fated irrigation effort from Eagle Lake. Out of the total of 1,317 bonds issued, 1,160 are to be burned.  All the bonds are now valueless by virtue of the bankruptcy proceedings through which the two districts have just gone.

The directors of the Baxter district considered plans at the Wednesday night meeting for finally dissolving that district. The Tule directors, however, will delay final action until certain rights which are now in dispute, among them water rights to Eagle Lake and water in the tunnel there, are determined.

Total of 3,920 acres which were not redeemed have been deeded to the bondholders who have taken a heavy loss.
