Lassen College’s Board of Trustees will meet in regular session tomorrow night.

Tuesday’s agenda includes a second reading and approval of a board policy relating to credit by examination, a quarterly financial status report and approval of a revised 2008-2009 budget.

Lassen’s Superintendent Dr. Douglas Houston will update the board on progress made towards completion of the March 15th follow up report required by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

The commission notified the college in a letter dated February 3rd that Lassen’s accreditation status has been upgraded and the college was being taken off probation.

In closed session the board will take up a personnel issue and an evaluation of the Superintendent.

The Board of Trustees meeting begins at 5:30 Tuesday evening in the boardroom located in the M building on the main campus.  To read Tuesday night’s agenda online click here.

Lassen County schools, both high school and elementary, will be closed today for observance of Lincoln’s Birthday.  County offices will be closed on Thursday and Lassen College will be closed on Friday.

All schools, the county and the college will have next Monday the 16th off in observance of President’s day.

Where Has Our Mail Matter Gone?
February 9th, 1887

Willful carelessness, neglect or lack of proper help to distribute the mail from Reno to this place, is apparent to our citizens.

For the last two months the newspaper mail to this town has come in irregular and "broken doses"," when it comes at all, for there are often days no western papers arrive here, and often when they get here, they are so old they are of no interest.

Much of the time the San Francisco papers are four days old when they arrive here, and many of them seem to have traveled over the country so much and for so long a time, they look old, filthy and bald-headed when they get here.

The Gazette scatters just as bad as the other papers, not putting in an appearance here for days at a time.  As economy is said to be one of the leading objects of the present administration, perhaps it cannot afford to let Susanville have its required amount of mail matter, but be that as it may, one thing is certain, that the mail matter for this place was never as irregular as it has been for the past two months.
