The Lassen County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen are hosting their 22nd annual “A Taste of Beef, A Sip of Wine,” on Friday February 6th.
The event has long been labeled Susanville’s “Social Event of the Year,” offering home made beef hors d’oeuvres and fine wines.
The event attracts over 400-500 attendees each year and the proceeds from the wine tasting directly help the Cattlewomen’s effort to support local scholarships, youth activities and Agriculture in the Classroom.

Lassen Ranching News

Hereford Calves For Lassen Ranch
Two purebred Hereford calves were recently brought to the Haubrich ranch at Standish by Ben Haubrich and Julian Mapes. They were purchased from the Frank Turner herd at Sattley and are to be exhibited by the Young Farmers association at the Lassen county fair next fall. The new owners expect to have the calves ready for the light fat steer class when the fair opens.
Auctions Provide Continuous Market
Formal opening of the Farmers' Livestock Auction yard 51/2 miles east of Susanville on U.S. highway 395 was to be made today. Organized to provide a local and year-around market for livestock raisers in northeastern California, the new yard is so nearly completed that the first auction is set for next Tuesday.
Organizers of the company plan to have a sale every Tuesday. The original plans were to have the yard on the Southern Pacific tracks near town, but the ground proved too muddy and five acres were purchased just north of the airport.
The yard consists of a 125 by 250-foot parking lot next to the road, while the pens, auction ring, scales and office are back of this area. The loading dock, tag chute and feeding corrals provide room for more than 300 head of stock and there are pens for 200 hogs. The auction ring will seat 200. Mr. Graham will be the auctioneer at the Tuesday sales. The yard plans to donate a good breeding gilt, to be sold at the opening. The proceeds of the first and all later sales of the same gilt will go to the Lassen polio drive.
